Actor Kevin Spacey tried to defend himself in a sexual assault lawsuit against him, saying that one of the defendants “stabbed him in the back” (betrayed), and that he was “flirting too much.”

Spacey said he remembers the prosecutor as funny, charming and flirtatious, and that their relationship was romantic and “somewhat sexual” in nature. He added: “I really liked him. We had a good time together. We laughed a lot. I didn’t think they would stab me in the back 20 years later.”

Spacey admitted that he was dominant in the relationship, but categorically denied touching the man without permission, saying it was all consensual. “I’m too flirtatious,” he said. “It was not something violent, aggressive or painful. It was tender and touching, and in my mind, romantic.”

Spacey claimed that he never had sex with his accuser, as the man made it very clear that he did not want to go to that level. “I respected that too,” he assured the jury. He rejected all other accusations against him because he considers them meaningless.

Spacey claims the men are lashing out because they regret being intimate with him. He pleaded not guilty to 12 criminal charges, including indecent assault and forcing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. In court, he complained that his world had “exploded” from the accusations.

Four men testified that Spacey touched them or performed oral sex on them between 2001 and 2013 in the UK, where the trial is being held.
