The season for the first harvest of peppers is underway. However, if you rushed a bit and picked some not-so-ripe specimens, you can speed up the process significantly by using a homemade trick. It will also work with vegetables bought at the store or at the market, if you want them to gain color and depth of flavor.

Unripe peppers are not that tasty, so it is worth spending a few days for them to change color and reach the depth of aromas. However, the whole process can be greatly sped up by using a clever trick. It’s free, you probably already have the product you need at home, and this trick will take you a few minutes to complete. What is worth doing? Reach for the newspaper. This method was used by our mothers and grandmothers, and over time it lost its popularity. However, it is worth going back to it, because it really works great. Just unwrap the peppers with newspaper and then put it in a dry and warm place. After a few days, it will mature, gaining in taste. So instead of throwing away old paper, use it for this. You can also use ready-made paper bags, in which, for example, lunch is packed.

Which pepper to choose? The number of bulges matters

Some may be surprised, but peppers are divided into male and female. The former has three bulges on the bottom, and the latter has four. However, these are not the only differences, because they also relate to taste and types of cooking. the female one with four bellies is much sweeter, but unfortunately it also has many more seeds inside. Thanks to such properties, it is best to use it for sandwiches and salads. On the other hand, male peppers with three bellies have fewer seeds and are perfect for baking, stewing and cooking various dishes.
