Who can count on 500 plus for a senior? Benefit not only for retirees
Although the name can be misleading, 500 plus for a senior is available not only to pensioners, but also to pensioners to all persons who are over 18 years of age and are incapable of work and independent existence, which is confirmed by a relevant medical certificate. In addition, they must have Polish citizenship or the right to permanent residence (if they are a citizen of one of the countries of the European Union, EFTA, Swiss Confederation) or legalized stay in Poland. Another requirement is to live in Poland. However, this is not the end of the criteria, because there is also the income threshold, which has changed this year.

In addition to the above, 500 plus for a senior may be applied for by people who are not entitled to a disability pension and do not have an established right to another benefit, e.g. are entitled to them, but their total gross amount does not exceed a specific amount. Until February 28, 2023, it was PLN 1,896.13, but with the March indexation it was raised to PLN 2,157.80 gross. When paying the benefit, the “PLN for PLN” principle applies. This means that not everyone can count on the full PLN 500, because the amount of the benefit will be reduced by as much as you exceed the income threshold.

After meeting the requirements to receive 500 plus for , you must submit the application and the required documentsand more precisely, a decision confirming the incapacity for independent existence together with a final court judgment in which the right to a care supplement was granted. If you do not have a decision or it is invalid, attach OL-9 (filled out by a doctor not earlier than one month before submitting the application) together with:
- full medical records and other documents that will be relevant to your case (e.g. regarding rehabilitation) and
- with a certificate of severe disability.
Documents should be submitted in person, through a proxy at ZUS or sent by post. You will receive a reply within 30 days.
