Last year’s problems with the purchase of coal, its low availability and huge increases made the purchase impossible for many families. For this reason, a carbon supplement was introduced, i.e. a benefit that was supposed to mitigate the related costs. What was it about? Will it also apply this year?

Who could apply for a carbon allowance in 2022? An entry was necessary
The condition for receiving the supplement was the entry or notification of the heating source to the Central Register of Emissions of Buildings. Moreover, it was available to households whose main source of heating was:
- solid fuel tiled stove,
- solid fuel boiler,
- fireplace,
- goat,
- coal kitchen,
- air heater,
- bake kitchen,
- kitchen stem,
fueled with hard coal (or briquettes or pellets containing at least 85% of hard coal). Importantly, there was no income threshold, and farms that had already purchased coal could also apply for the allowance.
Where do I apply for a carbon allowance? There were 60 days to pay the benefit
The carbon allowance was paid as part of the long-term “Clean” program, which runs from 2018 to 2029. Its main goal is to improve air quality. Applications for the supplement could be submitted in municipalities, by post or online from August 17 to November 30, 2022, and there were 60 days for its payment.
Carbon allowance 2023. Will it be introduced?
As we can read in the Polish Smog Alarm, coal prices fell by up to 24 percent. Slight declines are expected to continue until prices finally stabilize in mid-year to start rising ahead of the next heating season. The situation on the fuel market is still uncertain. Despite this, at the moment it is not known whether the government also plans to pay out subsidies for the purchase of coal this year.
