One of Charles Manson’s disciples left prison this Tuesday, July 11, on probation after more than five decades behind bars for involvement in two murdersthe authorities and his lawyer reported.

Van Houten was 19 years old when he joined the “family” of Charles Mansonsect led by the psychopath responsible for the death of the actress Sharon Tate. Eight months pregnant, the wife of director Roman Polanski was murdered in Los Angeles in 1969.

The accused, now 73 years old, did not participate in this crime that shocked the United States, but that in the murder of Len and Rosemary LaBianco the following night, also in California.

Van Houten admitted that he stabbed one of the victims, who was lying on the ground, about 15 times in the back. Sentenced to death in 1971, she was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1978.

After several attempts, van Houten was finally released on parole and is safe in a transition center, according to his lawyer Nancy Tetreault.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation did not provide other details or specific conditions of the case “for security reasons.”
