Margot Robbie wanted to star in “Barbie” with Emma Mackey because they are similar. There’s a problem on the set

“Barbie” directed by Greta Gerwig will certainly be the most watched film this summer, and maybe even the whole year! Playing the title character Margot Robbie revealed in one of the last interviews that she and the director wanted to engage Emma Mackey in the production due to their great similarity in terms of appearance. They also planned to use it in the film, but there was a little problem.

The movie about the world’s most famous doll is the most anticipated movie of the season. Although we still know little about the plot of the film, the title character will leave the perfect fairy-tale world in order to satisfy the curiosity of what lies beyond its borders. There, she will have to face a difficult reality and find herself in a new situation that will require her to leave her comfort zone.

Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey are similar … but not quite!

Margot Robbie, who was last seen in Babylon, will play the titular character. In addition to her, the production will also feature a whole galaxy of stars, such as Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera and Dua Lipa. The cast of “Barbie” also includes a large group of actors known from the Netflix series “Sex Education”, including Emma Mackey, who was often compared to the main star of the film due to their physical resemblance.

Margot Robbie in a recent interview with Buzzfeed Celeb confessed that she and the director of the film really wanted to involve Emma Mackey in this production because of the constant comments about the similarity of the actresses. They wanted to refer to this in the film, but there was one problem:

For years I’ve been told I look like the girl from Sex Education, Emma Mackey. She’s playing one of the Barbies because Greta and I thought it was funny and we’d make a whole joke about us looking alike. However, once we were in our costumes, we noticed that we didn’t look all that alike. She had brown hair and I was blonde, so there was no resemblance. We didn’t add that joke,” Margot Robbie explained.

The actress also said that she is often approached by fans who tell her that she played Maeve perfectly in “Sex Education”. She stated that she is not bothered by it and responds with a smile to the fans’ mistake. “Barbie” will appear in Polish cinemas on July 21, 2023. Pre-release screenings are planned in some cinemas.
