Jerzy Połomski died on November 14, 2022 at the age of 89. The singer was one of the most popular Polish stage artists. He performed many times at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, gave concerts all over the world, and also played in the theater. His greatest hits include songs such as: “The whole hall sings with us”, “Bo with girls” or “You will never forget”. In total, he performed on stage for over 60 years.
Jerzy Połomski’s grave underwent a metamorphosis. “It is not often that contemporary tomb sculptures are so interesting”
Połomski spent the last years of his life at the Home of Veteran Artists in Skolimów, and died at the age of 89 only two months after his birthday. The artist’s funeral took place on November 23, 2022 in the Warsaw Church of St. Cross, and the singer was buried in the family grave in Aleja Zasłużonych at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw. The funeral was of a state nature.
From the beginning, the artist’s grave attracted crowds of fans who wanted to pay tribute to him. Initially, a proper tombstone was missing at the place of his burial. The artist’s manager Violetta Lewandowska informed in February in an interview with “Fact” that the place would undergo a metamorphosis. She confessed that the final talks on the design of a tombstone for Jerzy are underway.
As I announced earlier, we stick to the idea of using thick glass. There will be Jerzy’s profile and a microphone on it. In addition, there will be a traditional record downstairs – said the artist’s manager.
In an interview with the tabloid, she added that the color of the glass had not yet been decided. The designer suggested dark glass, but the manager was inclined towards a lighter version, because Połomski was a great optimist in life.
Now the tombstone is ready and it makes a really great impression. It is rare when a contemporary monument can be said to look like a work of art, but Jerzy Połomski’s grave can certainly be considered such. In the comments under the photo you can read that many passers-by paid special attention to it while visiting Powązki.
The monument looks exactly as the artist’s manager described his project in February. When it comes to the color of the glass, you can’t see the ivory color proposed by Violetta Lewndowska. It was decided to use light blue, which contrasts well with the dark tombstone.
