Lavender essential oil: characteristics

lavender is a natural product that can be obtained using narrow-leaved lavender flowers. It is a plant that grows up to 90 centimeters in height, although it can also be slightly shorter. Its flowering period is in July and August. Its flowers are purple or violet in color. Although it is often grown in Polish gardens, it grows mainly in areas near the Mediterranean Sea, especially in Spain, France and Italy.

What makes lavender special? The properties of this preparation turn out to be extremely valuable. And among them can be mentioned:

  • anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal effect;
  • pain relief;
  • antiseptic effect;
  • supporting the wound healing process;
  • stress relief;
  • skin nutrition;
  • minimizing swelling;
  • widening of blood vessels.

Lavender oil: application

Want to use lavender? The use of this product is very diverse. So you can:

  • use it in compresses to support the healing process of wounds, including those that are irritating after insect bites;
  • add it to the bath to relax and calm down;
  • relieve itching of the skin with its help;
  • use it during massage to get rid of cellulite;
  • use for inhalation (in this case, it will help with inflammation of the upper respiratory tract);
  • prepare a lavender infusion, perfect to warm up the body, especially when there is a fever.

on the face is just one way to use this gift of nature. With its help, you can easily soothe any skin irritation. At the same time, it is recommended especially in the case of acne. With its help, it not only gets rid of bacteria, but also significantly reduces the secretion of sebum. lavender will have a refreshing effect on the skin of the face, and at the same time it will slightly mattify it.

How to make lavender oil?

How to make lavender? If you decide to make it at home, it will not take its traditional form, which is obtained by steam distillation or extraction with volatile solvents.

To prepare it, you need to reach for:

  • fresh or dried lavender flowers;
  • base oil, for example olive oil, sunflower oil or jojoba oil;
  • a small screw-top jar;
  • sieve;
  • pan.

First, pour the lavender flowers into the jar, filling it almost completely. Then pour the selected oil into the saucepan, heat it gently, then pour it into the vessel and close it. Then put the prepared oil in a dark, cool and dry place. Leave it there for a month, but remember to shake it every day.

When a month is up, pour the oil through a strainer to separate it from the flowers. Then pour it into a dark glass bottle. Then it will be ready to use.
