She was the viewers’ favorite, and then suddenly disappeared from the media. What does Monika Luft do today?

Monika Luft is most remembered as a television journalist, but she also tried her hand at acting in her youth. After some time, she disappeared from the media and devoted herself to writing books, and a few years ago she started working in the ministry under the rule of PiS. But that too is in the past. What does the 59-year-old presenter do now?

Monika Luft graduated from Iberian studies at the University of Warsaw, which resulted in cooperation with the Spanish public television TVE, which was the first station where she could fulfill herself as a journalist. However, as a young girl, she already had her first contacts with the camera, as she played several episodic roles. She is best associated with the 12th episode of “Nights and Days”, where she played Emilka – the daughter of Barbara and Bogumił Niechcic.

However, the real adventure with television began for her in 1994, when she became a TVP1 TV presenter. She was also one of the hosts of the legendary “Coffee or tea?” – the first Polish breakfast programme. She parted with the (then) public television in the early 2000s and started cooperation with Tele 5, which ended in a great scandal because the broadcaster did not pay her salary. Monika Luft had to fight with the station for tens of thousands of zlotys through lawyers.

From acting to working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In 2007, she returned to TVP for a while, but her program “Time of Stars” fell off the air after the first episode. Then the journalist decided to finally say goodbye to television and devoted herself to writing books. She has already had titles such as “Iguana’s Laugh” or “Argentine System”. At the same time, in line with her interests, she set up a website for lovers and breeders of Arabian horses, and from 2006 to February 2020 she was the editor-in-chief of the Polskiaraby.com portal.

Later, there was a breakthrough with which Monika Luft surprised many of her fans. For half a year she worked as a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, when Minister Zbigniew Rau asked her to sew up his cracked trousers in the presence of strangers, she decided to leave. “He was bent over, she was sewing, half the airport was watching. This humiliated her. She threw the papers” – the weekly “Polityka” described the course of events.

What does Monika Luft do now?

“Now I decide for myself, I don’t work full-time, I don’t have bosses … I live as I like, not others” – this is how Monika Luft referred to this situation on Woman.pl. The former journalist now devotes herself to writing and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. In 2021, she released i.a. another book devoted to Arabian horse breeding in Poland entitled “Arab adventure. From Emir Rzewuski to Krzysztof Jurgiel”, in which she described its history from the beginning of the 19th century until the present day.

The only thing that currently connects her with television is her second husband, Krzysztof Dużyński, whom she met on the set of the “Kawa czy tea?” program. They ran the program together for some time, and in 2004 they got married. “We moved very slowly from friendship and mutual trust to more and more intimacy (…) There was no question of seduction in the style of “skin, cart and chamber”, because such things do not impress me (…) When you live together, marriage makes many things easier. It was a common sense decision. Despite this, it was very emotional,” the woman recalled in one of the interviews for “Fakt”.
