Euskaraz irakurri: Gure Artea sariak, Susana Talayero, Nadia Barkate eta Anti liburu dendarentzat
Susana Talayero, Nadia Barkate and the Bilbao bookstore Anti are the winners of the awards gure artea this year, the most prestigious awards of the Basque Autonomous Community in the field of plastic and visual arts.
The Minister of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government, Bingen Zupiria, was in charge of announcing the decision of the jury for these awards, in a ceremony held today, Wednesday, at the Guggenheim Museum. Precisely, the members of the jury have been the curator Aimar Arriola, the artist Nora Aurrekoetxea, the cultural programmer Rakel Esparza and the art historian Miren Vadillo
Each of the winners will receive 20,000 euros, and the Gurea Artea awards ceremony will be held next autumn at the San Telmo museum in San Sebastián.
The artist Susana Talayero will receive the award for his artistic career. The jury has highlighted that the trajectory of more than 30 years of the woman from Bilbao “is synonymous with dedication and persistence, with plastic research work organized around keeping a diary in the studio”.
The jury considers that “Susana’s creative work goes beyond individual work and it is equally important to recognize her contributions to the context of Basque art through collaborative situations and collective experiences”.
The one from Bilbao Nadia BarkateFor his part, he will receive the Gure Artea award in recognition of creative activity. “His artistic work is mainly focused on drawing: it could be said that, at present, although sometimes complemented with works in blown glass, all his work is a single drawing, most of the time in black and white, although with some punctual incursions into the world of color. It is like a great image or a great fiction in a continuous process of construction, without haste, through the sum of the fragments that it shows in the exhibitions that it carries out, and that continues to grow incessantly giving body and image to a world of her own, with which its author has a personal relationship, in the sense of relating to it as if she were being honest with another person”, argued the jury.
In the activity section carried out by different agents in the field of plastic and visual arts, the Gure Artea award will go to the anti bookstore.
According to the jury, “since it opened its doors 20 years ago in the San Francisco neighborhood of Bilbao, it has become a fundamental meeting place between the field of letters, thought and plastic and visual arts. Through a careful bibliographic collection and a rich program of public and free activities, Anti’s contribution to the artistic and cultural fabric of Bilbao and the Basque context is unique”. According to the jury, “his contribution is measured on a day-to-day basis, in each new artist’s book that he publishes, in each exhibition that he hosts, in each workshop, presentation or performance that has been enjoyed there for two decades.”
