The romantic novel hit the New York Times bestseller list and was hailed as the title of the year, among others. by Vanity Fair and Vogue. The author received the award for the best debut as well as for the romance. It is hardly surprising that Amazon decided to make a movie based on it – the first announcement has just appeared on the web.

Alex Claremont-Diaz is the son of Ellen Claremont (played by Uma Thurman!), the US president. The “first son” usually fulfills his duties exemplary, but one day he loses his temper. During a royal wedding at the British court, a quarrel breaks out between him and the Welsh Prince Henry. During an argument, the young men fall into a wedding cake, which has unpleasant consequences for them. To resolve the image crisis and avert the threat of severing diplomatic relations, they must prove to the world that they are the best of friends. A PR stunt leads to Henry and Alex discovering they love each other. Worse, they have to hide it from everyone – if only because the US presidential election is approaching and Ellen Claremont is fighting for re-election.

Based on the best-selling book, the screenplay was co-written with author Ted Malawere and director Matthew Lopez. The main roles were cast by Taylor Zakhar Perez, known from the series “The Kissing Booth” (he plays Alex) and Nicholas Galitzine, whom the audience liked thanks to the film “Purple Hearts” – he portrays a Welsh prince. The screen will also feature the excellent British actor Stephen Fry, the already mentioned Uma Thurman as the president of the USA, as well as Sarah Shahi, Clifton Collins Jr., Ellie Bamber, Gaia Mondadori and Rachel Hilson. The US premiere is scheduled for August 11 this year.
