When Cher was 10 months old, her mother and father John Sarkisian separated after only a year of tumultuous marriage. After many years, Georgia revealed that she was not ready for motherhood, she even considered an abortion. She married a few more times and tried to develop a career as a model and , but without much success. Family turmoil, depression and financial problems of her mother at some point made Cher forced to find herself in a Catholic orphanage. I didn’t have the strength to raise. I had no money and no job, and the church was strong and willing to help. I could come to the orphanage every day and see my daughter, because I knew she would miss and cry – Georgia after years. The event was traumatic for both of them, but Cher managed to break free and achieve success on stage. As a child, she dreamed of becoming an actress.

In 1982, Cher performed in Come Back to The 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean on Broadway. One night, as she was leaving a New York theater, a stranger attacked her. Years later, she told The Guardian about the whole situation. When she saw the man at the back door, she assumed he was a fan. – I thought he would shake my hand. And he grabbed my arm and twisted my arm. He started pushing me into a dark alley and said, “If you squeal, I’ll kill you.” – Cher. Two fans came to her aid, who drew attention to the disturbing event. “They started screaming and running towards me and the attacker ran away,” she admitted.
