“Orła shadow” was a hit, but people laughed at the lyrics. Kasia Stankiewicz revealed that the song almost did not make it onto the album

“Orła shadow” is one of the most memorable hits of the Varius Manx band, which the group released with a new vocalist, Kasia Stankiewicz. The song turned out to be a huge success, but it definitely differed from what the band proposed when Anita Lipnicka was responsible for the lyrics and vocals. Some even mocked the words of the new hit a bit. And this is how its creation is recalled by its co-author, who adds that the song almost did not end up on the album.

she joined the band at the age of 18. In 1995, she made such an impression on the musicians that she won the episode of “Chances for Success” with their songs. When she left the group, they knew who to turn to. Kasia, however, was not prepared for the fact that she would also have to write texts right away – just like her predecessor.

How did the text for “Eagle’s Shadow” come about?

In 1996 Varius Manx was not idle. Although Kasia Stankiewicz has just joined the line-up, the team started working on new material almost immediately. This is how the singer herself recalls the beginnings:

Voice: It won’t be Kasia just singing. You will also write lyrics.

Me with horror: But I can’t and I have nothing to talk about.

Voice: Here’s a piece of paper and a pen.

With even greater horror: But it’s not enough, I need something to experience, I need a library to read.

Voice: Get to work, you have a month!

“Are you still surprised that we have ‘Eagle’?” – added Stankiewicz with a laugh. In fact, the song after its premiere caused some controversy and discussion, because it definitely did not resemble Anita Lipnicka’s poetic texts. Some were offended by its concise simplicity and somewhat abstract comparisons. But “Eagle’s Shadow” turned out to be a huge hit.

“This song wasn’t even supposed to be on the album, and yet this strange creation with a rare form, with mysterious lyrics, sucked the country. For me, this colossal debut and success was about the same colossal truth and energy with which I burst onto the stage ” – she wrote on the occasion of the anniversary of the Stankiewicz band.

It was the first single from the new album. The music was written by Robert Janson, and Stankiewicz apparently did not need a month and wrote the text in one night. People singing in Polskie Słowiki took part in the recording of the song. Interestingly, the music video, which looks very American and as if someone shot it in a wild desert, was made in Poland. The pictures were shot in the Lignite Mine in Bełchatów, and the whole thing was directed by Janusz Kołodrubiec. It was him who previously made clips for such songs as “Before you understand” (also Varius Manx), “Angel” by Heya, “Szał” by Edyta Bartosiewicz, “Życie miracle jest” by the De Su group or “On languages” and “Supermenka” from the repertoire of Kayah.

The album “Ego”, which, however, included “Eagle Shadow”, instantly gained a gold record certificate. The group received the distinction during the performance at the 33rd National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. Later, new sales figures were counted and it turned out that they already had 400,000. purchased copies – for this they were awarded multi-platinum.
