When in 1983 he graduated from the PWST in Krakow, he had already been associated with the National Theater in Warsaw for two years. He made his screen debut even earlier, in 1978, in the TV series “Ślad na Ziemi”, and received his first film role in Jerzy Gruza’s drama “Honeymoon Night in Broad Daylight”.
The addiction nearly ruined his career. Faith gave him hope and strength to fight
Dyblik stood out on the screen. He was characteristic, easily found himself in different roles and even being in the background, he was able to outshine the other heroes. He went like a storm, climbing the next career ladder, but he was close to losing everything for which he worked so long and persistently. The reason was from alcohol, which he had struggled with since his teenage years. In an interview, he recalled that as a child he watched his father look into a glass. “I grew up in the shadow of rows, waiting with my mother to see when and in what condition my father would return. I had only the worst feelings for him – he said, adding that alcoholism had been in his family for generations, because his grandfather was also there.
Over time, he also fell into the trap and could not even start the day without a sip of a strong drink. Despite persistent requests, with which he had three daughters, he did not want to undertake therapy. On his own, he made detoxes, but any longer abstinence ended in an even longer slump. He was also going through a career crisis at the time. He wanted to play big roles, and he only got episodes, he felt undervalued, and alcohol soothed this sadness. That was the first time he thought about taking his own life, but faith in God gave him hope that things would improve. “I thought suicide would be the best idea.” I thought my life had no meaning, it was a waste of effort. Thank God I’m not done with myself. It turned out that my life is attractive and full of satisfaction – he said in an interview for the portal .
The actor does not hide his illness. He encourages other alcoholics to fight addiction
For the first time, he was taken to a rehab clinic by a friend with whom he worked in the theater. Although he did not use help at that time, six months later he returned to the same place on his own to see specialists. – It seemed to me that I would not recover from it – he recalled in the Pleiades. Then he heard that the desire to change is already a big step towards sobriety. he went to rehab, and then for a long time he persistently attended meetings, learning to fight the mechanisms through which he reached for alcoholic beverages. Over time, he managed to get back on his feet and today he proudly says that he has been abstinent for over 30 years. Dyblik willingly appears at meetings with people who have the same problem as him. Then he tells his story, shares his experiences and encourages you to start therapy. He knows how insidious this disease is and how much effort must be put into overcoming it, because he still remembers all the difficult moments, but, as he argues, sobriety is both a motivation to change and a reward for the effort put into this change.
