The first regatta of the 2023 season of the Eusko Label and Euskotren leagues was canceled this Saturday, July 1, due to the strong waves in A Coruña. Therefore, the first day of the Bandera Cidad da Galicia will not be played.
The Association of Trainera Clubs (ACT) has announced that the strong waves “prevent the boarding of the trawlers”. Benigno Silvapresident of the technical committee of the ACT, explained the reasons that led to the cancellation of the regatta: “The boarding conditions are very complicated, there is very little margin time between wave and wave, there is a lot of wave height, a lot of undertow and there’s practically no time to do it.”
“I think that doing the regatta would be taking an excessive risk and some crew could have a dangerous mishap, so the most sensible thing to do is to suspend it and see if we can carry it forward tomorrow”, he announced.
Therefore, the season will officially start this Sunday, July 2.
