Sebastian Olejniczak-Brandt is an artist from Bydgoszcz who has loved impersonating various characters since his school days. He chose both talented singers and other iconic figures associated with pop culture and even history. As nowiny24.pl, he was even John Paul II and Lech Wałęsa.
Sebastian Olejniczak-Brandt pretends to be Maryla Rodowicz on stage. The case will go to court
However, it was with imitation that the singer linked his future. His friends persuaded him to be an artist’s doppelgänger. “I thought: why not? Maryla has always seemed to me a star who is not a star. Over the years, I have perfected my image. I learned the most by watching videotapes with concerts. I mastered her movements and behavior on stage. Of course, everything with her permission” – said Brandt in 2014 in an interview with the portal nowiny24.pl. At the same time, he noted that he clearly signals during the performances that he is the Second Marilla, which protects him from a lawsuit.
However, the agreement between Brandt and Rodowicz did not last forever. In 2011, “Super Express” wrote about how Maryla Rodowicz was upset that her lookalike did not inform her during her concerts and used her name and image to promote her activities. “What he does is not a parody, it’s a fake” – emphasized Rodowicz.
Like Pomponik, Second Marilla disagreed with the charges. Brandt emphasized that at the artist’s request he changed his stage image and made every effort to let the audience know that he was coming to his performance – an artist unknown throughout Poland. Nevertheless, the case went to court.
Maryla Rodowicz, through lawyers, ordered her doppelgänger to stop using her name, but he refused. “We will file a lawsuit” – noted Andrzej Dużyński, then husband of the singer. “People are fooled. Mr. Sebastian violates my wife’s personal rights and the rights to her image” thundered Rodowicz’s partner today and accused Maryla’s doppelgänger of unfair competition.
