She had four legs. Even as a small child, she became a huge attraction

Josephine Myrtle Corbin was born with two different pelvises side by side from the waist down. According to Myrtle’s doctor, the extra legs were supposed to be her separate twin. Her case was seen as a rare form of fraternal twins called “dipygus.” Each of her smaller inner legs was paired with one of the outer ones. Technically, she had difficulty walking because she only had one working leg, as the inner limbs were paired with the other.

Her birth sparked curiosity among the locals, who were curious about Josephine’s rare appearance. So the father decided to make money on this fact by charging them a fee so that they could look at the four-legged daughter. When the girl was thirteen, she began to travel in the company of her father to different cities. Numerous performances have brought them a lot as well. Josephine quickly became a circus attraction and star status.

Josephine Myrtle Corbin was a big star and had a loving family. She gave birth to 5 children

Despite her deformity, she did not let it affect her outlook on life. At the age of 19, she married a doctor named James Clinton Bicknell. The couple had five children (4 girls and 1 boy). It was by being with her first and subsequent babies in the left womb and the others in the right womb that the true circumstances of her condition came to light. Her condition was discovered by Dr. Lewis Whaley of Blountsville, Alabama. It turned out that during fetal development, Josephine “absorbed” her twin sister, resulting in extra body parts.

Josephine Myrtle Corbin died on May 6, 1928 at the age of 59 after a strep infection of the skin for which there was no cure in the 1920s. After her death, doctors and circus showmen were willing to pay a lot of money for her dead body, but the family rejected these offers. Her relatives guarded her grave for days until the concrete had dried so that the corpse would not be stolen by grave robbers.
