A good example of a person who is completely unlike the monster he plays is Pennywise, the clown from the movie “It” based on the book by Stephen King. The role of the beast feeding on childhood fear was played by Bill Skarsgård, who is considered handsome on a daily basis.
What do horror movie stars look like without makeup? It is impossible to recognize them
Before the premiere of the 2017 production, another artist was associated with the role of the clown. All thanks to the 1990 miniseries of the same title, in which Tim Curry played, an actor who does not evoke negative emotions until he is properly disguised.
One of the most iconic characters from the world of horror is Freddy Krueger. He comes from the Nightmare on Elm Street slasher series and is a psychopathic child killer who is burned alive. Years later, he returns and attacks victims in their sleep, although he kills for real.
The original Freddy in the movie is Robert Englund, who looks really scary thanks to the make-up. Covered with burn scars, with almost lost facial features, wearing a characteristic striped sweater and an overlay with claws on his hand, he can actually easily break into the nightmares of viewers of films with his participation. However, after getting rid of the elements of characterization, Englund has always aroused sympathy.
In 2018, the American horror film The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy, hit the cinemas. The production is the fifth picture belonging to the Universe of Presence and a spin-off of the production “Obecność 2”, which viewers could see on the big screen two years earlier.
The action of Hardy’s work takes place in the 1950s in Romania. Then two nuns from the Saint Cartha convent are attacked by a mysterious force. One dies at the hands of a demon, and the other manages to commit suicide in time. However, the unclean spirit takes advantage of the opportunity and takes the form of a ghostly nun. Walak, one of the demons known from the occult tradition, was played by Bonnie Aarons, who has expressive facial features even without make-up, but it is difficult to recognize her as a terrifying nun from the film.
Japanese writer Kōji Suzuki rose to fame at the age of 34 when he published his novel Ring in 1991. The success of the horror surpassed his wildest expectations, and seven years later it was made into a film version directed by Hideo Nakata. It remains the highest-grossing horror film in Japanese cinema history to this day.
The Japanese were envied by the Americans and in 2002 they realized a remake of “The Ring” set in Western culture. The film tells the story of a legend about a killer videotape, which turns out to be true. Anyone who watches the mysterious video dies after seven days. The video shows a well from which a girl with long matted hair in a dirty, worn shirt comes out. A terrifying character hiding a dark story is Samara Morgan, played by Daveigh Chase in the American version of the film. You will admit that in fact she is closer to a nice girl next door than a nightmare.
