The pilot episode of “ER” premiered on September 19, 1994. On the screen, among today’s world-famous heroes, Carol Hathaway appeared. Managing a team of nurses at County General’s Hospital, the character is knowledgeable, competent, and well-liked by his co-workers. We also learn that she has something in common with the seductive doctor, Doug Ross, played by George Clooney.

Midway through the episode, the nurse leaves the hospital. On the way, however, he stops in front of a locked medicine cabinet, opens it and takes a box of medicines. Viewers don’t attach much significance to the scene until Hathaway returns to the hospital as a patient.

It turned out that the nurse overdosed on medication in an attempt to commit suicide. According to the script, Carol was not supposed to survive a strong poisoning of the body. Specialists analyzing the series in terms of medical correctness pointed out that Hathaway’s chances of survival were close to miraculous. However, the nurse survived and appeared in the next episode of the series. This was because viewers loved Carol, and the creators realized that ending the nurse’s plot so quickly would be a big disappointment for them.
