Will Smith, although this year received an Oscar for the best leading role, for the next 10 years, even if he wins a statuette, will not receive it personally. The actor is banned from entering the Oscars and other organisation’s events after slapping Chris Rock for a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith.
The ban on entry to the events of the Film Academy are not the only consequences that met the actor. After he attacked the Oscar ceremony presenter, Netflix and Sony stopped work on films in which Will Smith was involved. In Apple TV + they were also combining what to do with “Emancipation”. For example, the film director spoke about it in an interview with the Deadline website. Antoine Fuqua explains:
As a filmmaker, you want your work to be public, especially something this important. The people at Apple, behind the scenes, also made an effort to navigate the marshy terrain. They never stopped talking about a movie premiere, thinking when would be the best time for her.
And according to the first people who have already seen “Emancipation”, the film has a chance to win awards – including for the role for Smith. The more that Apple TV + has a good streak, because the Oscar for the best film was recently won by their “CODA”.
