The minted coin was presented this Wednesday at the Santiago de Compostela Town Hall, in an act in which the mayor, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo, the Government delegate, José Miñones, the Minister of Culture, Román Rodríguez, and the vice president intervened. economy and Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño, through a video. “It is a small contribution more, great in symbolism, that is worth more than its weight in silver “, has proclaimed the Government delegate in his speech.

“It is a currency that is sold strictly for face value, a wonderful gift to make this Christmas and that it will continue to be sold during the two years of the Camino in this Xacobeo year “, has remarked the director of the Casa de la Moneda, which has already turned over since 1993 with this event with the printing of these coins. The coin as the protagonist of the act has led the mayor of Compostela to show his “satisfaction”, since Santiago will finally be present in an object of this value, after, with the entry of the euro, he was left only in pennies (1, 2 and 5 cents).

Then, he recalled, “he discussed” with the Government and the national factory itself to get the Cathedral to be placed in a higher value coin and, he has proclaimed, “today we present a 30-euro coin.” Meanwhile, the Government delegate, José Miñones, he has confessed himself a coin collector and has shown special satisfaction, as “santiagués” by birth, for this commemorative coin. “A singular action that is part of the institutional support of the Government for the Holy Year and its dissemination,” he added. For his part, the Minister of Culture has taken the opportunity to invite all representatives of national entities to “contribute to making the Xacobeo that Galicia deserves“, a” transversal event, which represents the sum of the forces of all the participants “, since, making a simile with the Camino, the” hardest stages are better traveled in company. “In his speech, Román Rodríguez made a parallel between the “symbol of exchange and exchange from the respect and mutual understanding” that the coins represent and the “spiritual, emotional, cultural, social and even sentimental change” of the Xacobeo.

He also referred to the single euro currency as the “great modern symbol of the new Europe”, a Way that “enjoys the greatest universality in its history”. Through a video, the economic vice president highlighted that the Camino is “a symbol of encounter, brotherhood, effort, solidarity and respect.” “Fundamental values that we have to vindicate every day to build a better society”, he pointed out. Calviño also stressed that the Camino “is a symbol of the flow of time, of the survival of the changes and daily challenges that we face”, thoughts that “reflect well the last years” in which citizens have gone through the pandemic to reach now to “recovery”, which must be consolidated.
