Maryla Rodowicz is one of the most recognizable people in Poland. Almost everyone knows her voice. And although for many she is mainly an excellent singer and guitarist, she can surprise her – starting with her name.

She gained the greatest fame as a singer – because who among us does not know such hits as “Małgośka” or “Wielka Woda” – after all, “It’s already been”. There is no doubt, however, that the artist’s biography can surprise – especially those who associate her only from the vocal side. Maryla Rodowicz is also an actress; viewers loved her for the role of feisty Ula from the series “Foster Family”. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s also there bronze medalist in the 80m race hurdles at the 1959 Polish Youth Championships and a gold medal in the 4 × 100 m relay at the 1962 Polish Youth Championships.
Maryla Rodowicz is actually not Maryla at all
Another issue that may surprise fans of Maryla Rodowicz is her … name. It turns out that the 77-year-old singer’s name is not Maryla; those who know her biography better know this. It’s really called Maria Antonina Rodowicz and under these names the famous performer is listed in the birth certificate and other official documents. On December 8, 1945, her parents decided to name her in honor of the patroness of the day of her birth.
Nevertheless, a star came she didn’t like her name and some time later she decided to change it to “Maryla” – because that’s what her grandmother from Belarus called the singer. – When the singer began her musical career during her studies at the Warsaw University of Physical Education, she already used the name Maryla – Radio ZET.
