Frida Kahlo is one of the most famous and interesting artists of the 20th century. Her self-portraits still arouse the imagination to this day. for references to Mexican culture strongly present in her art, as well as the presence of suffering and pain, which she translated from life into art. Her tragic life, the details of which many people got to know better thanks to the biography “Frida” starring Salma Hayek, has been of interest to many people for years.
Three paintings and many attractions. Frida Kahlo in the Royal Łazienki
The exhibition titled “The Color of Life. Frida Kahlo” will be opened to visitors in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw on July 7, 2023. Among the exhibits will be three works by Kahlo: “There hangs my dress” (1933), “Coconuts” (1951) and “Still life with watermelons” (1953). In addition to them, you will be able to see archival photos from the artist’s life, as well as a documentary film from 1941 by Nickolas Muray. This American photographer was friends with Frida Kahlo, he is also the author of many of her photos. According to the organizers of the exhibition, in the archival material we will see the artist and her husband, Diego Rivera, in the garden of the Blue House, and despite the passage of over 80 years since the film was made, its quality, especially the intensity of colors, is still impressive.
The exhibition will also include an open-air installation in the courtyard of the Cadet School, where fragments of the Blue House will be recreated, where Frida Kahlo was born, raised, created and died. “Cobalt, red, green – from the very first steps we will feel that we have come to the unique world of Frida Kahlo, full of colors and nature” – encourage the creators of the exhibition.

During the exhibition, which will be open until September 3, there will also be: lectures on the borderline of art, psychology and psychiatry, which are to raise the issue of the impact of physical and mental suffering on the work of Frida Kahlo (she suffered from polio as a child, then had a serious accident). Their partner is the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw. Workshops and meetings are also planned. introducing the culture of Mexico and attractions for families with children (e.g. “Mexican toddler zone”).
A normal ticket to the exhibition will cost PLN 30, and a concessionary ticket will cost PLN 15. Adults with a Large Family Card for the “Color of Life. Frida Kahlo” event for PLN 20. Detailed information on the program of events can be found in the Royal Łazienki Park.
