Four days later, his 2005 Toyota Corolla was found near an intersection in Bremerton, about half a mile from a body of water. Inside, police found personal items, except for a wallet and car keys. All the lights in the apartment were on.

Officers investigating the disappearance initially believed that Joe Pichler had committed suicide. In 2023, 17 years have passed since the disappearance. To this day, it is not known what happened to Joe Pichler.
