The poet and director of the Instituto Cervantes, Luis Garcia Montero, has starred in one of the most emotional moments of the funeral of Almudena Grandes when he said goodbye to his wife with a kiss on one of his books.
García Montero, visibly moved, has kissed the book before placing it on his wife’s coffin. For a few seconds she has been staring at the last resting place of the Madrid writer, in the Civil Cemetery of La Almudena.
Hours before the answer, the poet had thanked the affection received and the condolences for his loss. “I suppose that being sunk is a way to stay in love and to start a new life with the love of always, “he wrote through Twitter.
Hundreds of readers have attended the funeral accompanied by the most representative works of the writer, who died this Saturday at the age of 61 due to cancer.
The proposal was from the journalist Ramon Lobo, in a tribute to the image and likeness of the Portuguese Nobel laureate José Saramago.
“Almudena Grandes deserves an act like Saramago’s in Lisbon, with her readers holding some of her books as thanks,” the writer shared via Twitter.
