The screenplay of the film was based on a story originally written on Wattpad by Mercedes Ron. Let’s add that Wattpad is a free platform that allows people to read and publish their stories or books. In November 2021, the site had about 90 million monthly users who talked to each other every day, commented on stories and books, shared opinions and contacted authors.
“My fault” quickly gained readers’ interest. In 2017, the book hit the store shelves, and Mercedes Ron wrote a story about the forbidden love of half-siblings for a whole trilogy entitled “Culpables” or “Guilty”. The second volume is entitled “Your wine” and the third one is “Our wine” – all parts have already been published in Polish.
The story of forbidden love is the perfect material for a script and it is no wonder that the Spanish filmmaker Domingo Gonzales reached for the almost ready material. Together with the author of the novel, he wrote the screenplay, and then directed the whole thing. Nicole Wallace, Gabriel Guevara and Marta Hazas were cast in the lead roles.
