In 2018, Joanna Kulig played the role of the priest’s lover in the famous film “Kler”. The role brought her many favorable reviews and one court case. Five years after the premiere of the title, the actress won the dispute with the tabloid.

“Kler” was one of the most famous cinema premieres in Poland in 2018. The director presented the stories of three Catholic priests who had different approaches to the Christian faith and the faithful. Despite the huge success of the film, the production met with strong opposition from conservative circles due to its anti-clericalism. At the same time, Smarzowski managed to provoke a nationwide discussion on pedophilia among priests.

Joanna Kulig won another dispute with the tabloid

The star cast of Smarzowski’s work included Janusz Gajos, Jacek Braciak, Arkadiusz Jakubik, Robert Więckiewicz and . The Oscar-nominated actress played Hanka Tomala, the housekeeper and at the same time the lover of Father Trybus. Even before the premiere of the film, it was known that it would not go unnoticed. The trailer featured an erotic scene between Kulig and Więckiewicz, which was quickly cut out of the announcement.

The censorship did not go unnoticed by the media and sparked a discussion. “Super Express” decided on a strong title, which on August 8, 2018 published an article commenting on the incident titled “SCANDAL! She censored sex with a priest.” Joanna Kulig decided that putting the case in such words violates her personal rights. The court agreed.

“Super Express” apologized to Joanna Kulig

According to the WP portal, “Super Express” had to publish an official apology five years after the premiere of the film. The message addressed to the actress was on the front page of the Tuesday issue of the newspaper from June 20, 2023. “The publisher of the ‘Super Express’ daily – ZPR Media SA, apologizes to Ms. Joanna Kulig-Bochniak for violating her personal rights in the form of honor and good name by publishing the press material ‘SCANDAL! She censored sex with a priest’ in the ‘Super Express’ daily, in the issue of August 8, 2018.” – we read. The newspaper also reported that the statement was published in connection with a lost lawsuit.

This is not the first time that Kulig demanded justice for the content published by tabloids about her. In 2018, the actress won the dispute with “Fact” after almost three years. As Kulig declared on her Instagram, it was about “lying, sexist, slanderous texts, combined with manipulated photographs that had a huge impact on her and her family’s life.”
