hit the air in the second half of the 1980s and, despite numerous perturbations, enjoyed great interest among viewers for a long time. The creators of the program have often unraveled cases that had been unsolved for decades. What is the reason for abandoning the legendary series?
“Magazyn Kryminalny 997” won the hearts of viewers. The program solved many unexplained cases
The first episode of “Magazyn Kryminalny 997” was aired on TV Two in October 1986, and its host was a militiaman, Col. Jan Płocienniczak. However, Michał Fajbusiewicz, who took over the role of the host in 1990 and held it for two decades, is most associated with it. During this period, the format underwent numerous perturbations, but the viewership remained at a high level. At some point, the program was moved to Info. Later, it reappeared on the TVP2 channel, where it was broadcast until December 10, 2010. Less than 3 years later, Fajbusiewicz returned to the screens, implementing the format together with Polsat Play under the changed name “997 – Fajbusiewicz on the trail”, and then on CI Polsat as “The whole truth about crime”.
Finally, in 2017, it was decided to return the show to the air. To the surprise of the viewers, after the broadcast of one episode, the magazine was taken off the air again. The reason was the unfavorable comments of Witold Gadowski, who criticized the production for its “PRL roots”. It was only in the spring scheduling that production was resumed, but this time Dariusz Bohatkiewicz began to appear as the host. However, the change did not positively affect the improvement in viewership.
TVP resigns from “Magazyn Kryminalny 997”. The station issued an official statement
On Friday, June 16, 2023, a short video with the magazine’s logo with the word “Thank you” appeared on the official profile of the program in social media. Fans immediately began to speculate that this was another break in the broadcast.
The suspicions turned out to be correct, because on June 19, she issued an official statement informing about the resignation from further production of “Magazyn Kryminalny 997”. The last moderator, Dariusz Bohatkiewicz, also spoke on the matter.
Thank you for these wonderful 5 years – my colleagues, experts who came to us, as well as police officers and prosecutors. (…) The most important thing is that many of the presented cases have been solved, and the perpetrators of the crimes, who counted on impunity, ended up where they belonged, i.e. behind bars
– quotes the words of the journalist. The broadcaster did not indicate the official reasons for abandoning the format, but as the portal established, the systematic decrease in statistics was to be one of the main reasons.
