‘I felt panic, I felt very alone’: Guti Gut from ‘Ugly Betty’ reveals he almost went blind and recounts how much he spent on surgery when the retina in his right eye detached

The 63-year-old actor, born in Argentina but naturalized in Colombia, told the program “The Net” by Caracol what was the experience he went through when he had retinal detachment in his right eye.

“I saw little birds and said ‘what is this’, something normal, something dirty and that bothered me. Suddenly, the eye began to darken little by little. It was getting dark and I completely lost my sight,” he said in his testimony for the entertainment program.

Without specifying the exact date when this event occurred, León Jaramillo mentioned that this situation led him to the emergency room and that he had to undergo surgery almost immediately to restore his sight. “I spent the whole day recuperating, and at night I was at home,” he said Dr. Guti Gut.

It was a moment of great pain in the life of the “I’m Ugly Betty” actor because, he admits, he also felt very scared.

“I felt fear, panic, I felt very alone,” Alberto León Jaramillo recalled that experience that also affected his pocket because he spent 10 million pesos on the operation, which is the equivalent of more than $2,300.

“Sleep sitting up, don’t bend over, don’t lift weights, don’t play sports, don’t exert yourself. You start to see and all these things are done daily in quantity, I had those worries,” said the actor who, after the recovery of his right eye, continued his activities until he received a new sign.

On April 28, “Gutti Gut” noticed bleeding, but this time in his left eye, for which he went to the emergency room again.

“The glass in the retina broke and the bleeding was like ‘hey watch that.’ I immediately went to the emergency room,” he said.

In the middle of her story, she recalled feeling “like a little red cobweb” which later became completely blurry and she lost her vision in the affected eye again.

The actor presented two tears which became a sign that there could be another retinal detachment, for which he had to resort to expensive laser sessions as part of the treatment.

“These costs were high, this emergency was practically two million pesos in one session on my left eye. I have to undertake each intervention in a special way, so it’s a big expense,” he admitted about the procedure that helps him avoid complete detachment of the retina.
