We used to eat “God’s bread”, and today hardly anyone knows it. It is a real treasure for health

We can remember “God’s Bread” from our childhood, especially if we spent it in the backyard. The sheep of this plant were then eaten by the handful. This popular weed grows very often on city lawns, parks, meadows and home gardens. Because it occurs in great numbers, we often do not pay attention to it and pass by as if nothing had happened. And that’s a big mistake!

Known for its characteristic taste, “God’s Bread” is just a colloquial name, in fact the plant in question is neglected mallow. It is an amazing salvation for our body! It will help with digestive problems and more. This inconspicuous gentleman has many beneficial properties for us.

Sometimes mallow is also called curly, grandmother’s cheese, woman’s bread or woman’s herb. So what actions does mallow have? Primarily anti-inflammatory. As mentioned above, it improves digestion, and also gives relief from diarrhea, constipation, as well as gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also a relief during earache. Wild mallow, on the other hand, is used in inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and in colds with symptoms of dry cough, hoarseness and runny nose – it facilitates expectoration and soothes sore throat!

In addition, mallow can prevent watery eyes. It is also salvation for the skin – it soothes ailments such as acne. Mallow can also be used as a liver shield during antibiotic therapy.

However, we should remember that if we want to pick mallow ourselves, we should pick it away from the streets (due to, among others, pollution and exhaust fumes). When picking, you should also pluck the fruit stalks.

Homemade mallow infusion. How to prepare?

How to consume mallow? The flowers and leaves of the common mallow are suitable for consumption. You can eat them raw as an addition to salads or, for example, use them as a spice for hot dishes. However, the most common form of consuming mallow, which is valuable for health, is drinking specially prepared infusions.

Nothing simpler: to prepare such an infusion, pour one teaspoon of dried mallow with one cup of boiling water. Then we cover the cup with a lid and wait 15 minutes for our drink to brew well. After this time, strain and we can enjoy its naturally sweet taste!
