Barcelona target Gundogan leaves his future open at Manchester City: “No decision has been taken”

After being champion three times for manchester city this season (FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League), midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has left his future open. When asked about the next steps in his career, the 32-year-old German said he’s not decided. Still, he gave clues about the interest of the barcelona.

“No decision has been taken, I’m still in the process of deciding my future. Barcelona is a beautiful city”, said the Citizens player.

However, Gundogan revealed a consultation from Borussia Dortmund, through the director of the German team. Even so, he denied returning to his former club as he has no interest in playing in the German Championship.

“There was contact with Borussia Dortmund, through Sebastian Kehl and my agent. But it was never close because a return to the Bundesliga is not foreseen in my plans”, he added.

However, coach Pep Guardiola admitted Barcelona’s interest in signing Gundogan, saying that the coach of the Spanish team Xavi has been trying to convince the German to arrange his trip to the Catalan club: “I know that Barça are interested, and so are City. I hope he stays with us. If he signs him, he will make an extraordinary signing. I know Xavi is calling him.”

Currently, Ilkay Gundogan has a contract with Manchester City only until June 30, which allows the midfielder to sign a pre-contract with any team and leave England free of charge after seven seasons. The German athlete transferred to the English team in July 2016 from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth 20 million pounds (R$ 103.5 million at the time), being one of Guardiola’s first reinforcements in charge of the Citizens.
