To close one of the episodes of her life, the actress decides to put on a play that recreates a television cooking show with surprises.
For the first time, Luisa Cuesta will play Luisa Cuesta on stage. From December 2 to 5, the actress will talk about a very personal story (the attack against his father, the journalist Rafael Cuesta, which occurred in 2000) in the part that you have named Nostalgia kitchen and that will be presented this week at the Centro de Arte Theater.
However, far from tackling it in a tabloid or boring format, the artist bets on a sum of scenic languages that complement each other for a montage fun, upbeat and eclectic.
“I started to process this idea in January 2020 until I concluded that it would be in the format of a television show with a theme that allows me to metaphorize what is happening. And then I leaned over to the kitchen, because through the preparation of the food and the instruments that are used, so many stories, facts, desires, impulses can be represented ”, he explains. “I realized that I could have poetry, dance, and even a flash informative that suddenly interrupted everything”.
The fictional television space Nostalgia kitchen collect forgotten traditional recipes, such as the meat pudding, the naranjilla babarrois or the pineapple flip, and although the function that the public will attend will be the farewell program, it will also be the most fun at the same time.
The menu that will be prepared will be a campari as an aperitif; then a veal carpaccio; and, to close, a tiramisu with white wine.
As a surprise, Luisa has prepared a different guest for the closing of each function, whose names he still prefers to keep secret (although he claims he could gain a lot of publicity and public if he revealed them).
“The preparation has been tenacious, because I am completely out of my comfort zone,” says Cuesta. “The beginning is very realistic and that is completely foreign to me, because I do an artificial theater, with the body, the voice, the makeup, the costumes; but here I present myself as me, the character is called Luisa Cuesta, implanted in that context. Obviously, There comes a time when the piece has a break and, from that break, everything becomes more and more artificial. There is like a process from realism to the artificial”.
Along with her will be the dancers Boris Posligua and Gerardo Vera, who bring dynamism and freshness to the piece, with a choreography also created by Luisa.
“I am also very inspired by Rafaella Carrá”, He comments. “I lived in Italy from 3 to 6 years old and many things were saved for me, and Rafaella was one of the characters that most impacted me: her presence, how she moved, her makeup, her hair, her dancers, always surrounded by men, who at the same time were her stage companions and help her shine“, Explain. “And when I saw Boris and Gerardo dance, I chose them, because they had that energy and spirit that would allow us to bond. Beyond the technique, although they are excellent, I wanted dancers with soul and swing, that they could have fun on stage “.
This piece originally premiered last night at the Anthropological and Contemporary Art Museum (MAAC), as part of the Meeting of Women Artists and Entrepreneurs, which also brought together other artists and cultural managers, including Monika Cuesta and Elizabeth Zambrano.
For Luisa, this montage has also meant reassess their talent to compose a play, because, in addition to dramaturgyAlso the production of lights, music, costumes, choreography and makeup were in charge.
“The music that has been chosen is very funny; inspires you, transports you, happy. I think the public will want to dance, “he says. “May expect fun in a poetic, artistic and very eclectic way, and lots of surprises in the piece. You can expect the unexpected”.
