George Clooney has found his chance to redeem his superhero image in the recently released DC Studios movie Flash. Although the return of michael ketone was widely promoted and expected, it was not the only surprise of the tape that decided to give Clooney has another chance to play billionaire Bruce Wayne.

Here’s how Michael Keaton’s return as Batman (in a much more comfortable suit) was conceived for ‘The Flash’, out June 15

Is the 62-year-old American actor too old to star in The Flash? Not at all, considering that Keaton is already 71 and takes part in several action sequences from Flash. Clooney was the protagonist of 1997 Batman and Robindirected by Joel Schumacher. This tape was widely criticized and described as one of the worst of the Dark Knight, perhaps because of its ambition: the cast was full of heavy names in roles of heroes and villains: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chris O’Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, Uma Thurman and Elle Macpherson.

In addition, he ran with the misfortune of carrying the famous suit designed with included nipples, which was the subject of ridicule and another reason for disqualification Batman and Robin. It was believed that the idea came from Joel Schumacher, who wanted to give the hero armor in the traditional warrior style, like that of an ancient Roman centurion.

This left Clooney with no choice but to laugh at himself, though he nonetheless defended his Batman by saying that while he almost killed the character, at least his work was “better” than Batman’s. It had already done so in 1995 (Batman forever, with Val Kilmer), but he asked if it was more noticeable in the Clooney costume, and the sculptor José Fernández did, and incidentally tried to ensure that the costumes showed the most pronounced musculature. In fact, she says, she didn’t want to put on such contoured nipples, “but he was in charge.” Schumacher would say years later: “It never occurred to me that male nipples were a controversial part of the body”.

And this overshadowed the work of George Clooney, who instead created a version of Bruce Wayne that was less dark, funnier, and aware of his financial and technological fortunes and the privilege of being a masked vigilante.

DC, as well as Marvel, are on a mission to bring back as many of their former superheroes as possible, as part of the growth of their respective fictional universes. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel once again gave the red mesh to two of the Arachnid’s most iconic faces, Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield, and made them shine in an iconic moment with the mask’s current wearer, Tom Holland.
