For the band Sixteen, the performance at Eurovision was supposed to be a ticket to a great career. They created great hits such as “Wake up Venus in me” or “Your Lava”, which took the charts by storm. Unfortunately, the leader and founder of Sixteen died suddenly in 1998.

Jarosław Pruszkowski played guitar and keyboards. For five years from 1985 to 1990 he was a member of Bajm, but he decided to leave the formation. He founded Sixteen, and in October 1997 their first album “Lava” was released. The singles promoting the album were appreciated by critics and quickly became hits. Sixteen’s career seemed to be just getting started.

In 1998 they received an offer to represent Poland in the Competition. They performed well in rehearsals and were predicted to be in the top ten. Unfortunately, although on the outside it seemed that the band had caught the wind in the sails, things were not going well between the members. The singer, Renata Dąbkowska, was in conflict with Pruszkowski’s wife, Olga, who sang in choirs and played the violin. — I did not want to submit to her, so she pushed me to the margins of life in the band, slandered me in the eyes of others. At Eurovision in 1998, she told one of my friends that whoever comes in contact with me will die. Right after that, he spilled hot coffee on his pants, so he heard it as a warning in one of his interviews. The tense situation in the band resulted in a poor performance, and Sixteen finished in 17th place.

When they returned to the country, Jarosław Pruszkowski and his wife went to the Slovenian mountains. The team struggled to adapt to the new situation. Their popularity was still at a high level and they had many concerts ahead of them, but a month after the final, Pruszkowski died. – During the journey, Jarek suddenly fainted. I tried to help him, he asked me to pray for him. He died in my arms — Pruszkowski’s wife in an interview. The event changed the band’s fortunes and caused Sixteen’s popularity to wane over time. Members tried to reactivate, but never managed to repeat the success of the 90s. After the death of her husband, Olga became involved with Grzegorz Kloc, Renata Dąbkowska’s ex-husband, with whom she was in conflict.
