When presenting one of the categories of the REM Awards 2023organized by say early April Omar Galindo took advantage of the special performance on stage and, microphone in hand, surprisingly intoned a cappella a stanza of his unforgettable melody I’m gonna love youwhich he popularized with the group From Mozart in the first decade of 2000.

On that evening, two and a half months ago, when the best of the national talent was celebrated, Omar also showed that after almost 20 years of that first musical success, he still has a lot to offer and, above all, stories to sing. he tells it in this interview.

How has Omar Galindo’s career evolved over the past 20 years?

Musically I have evolved a lot. I’ve been more focused on the composition part, my career has been more focused on that in these years. I am a composer signed by Big Dream Music, by Alejandro Jaén, and I make songs for other artists. I really like writing and composing, I enjoy it a lot, even more than show business and television. I also make my own productions, I don’t like producing these artists for others because there are a lot of demands and egos.

Which artists have you composed for?

I even made songs for different kinds of artists Hilda Murillo even. The last thing I did was for Jeff Montanoa song that sounds very good in Peru and Colombia that end. It is also going to start promoting ivan farias after whom I made a song called tell me since whento which her album also owes its name and with which I had the opportunity to share with the composer Eric Ender and the same Alejandro Jaen. And I also made songs for some artists here in Ecuador. I just composed for Angela.

You recently presented the topics Hit bottom And PoetAre you preparing your return to the music scene with these productions?

You could say yes. I released several singles after being with the guys from the Van Mozart group, among others Loves that kill which was, among other things, the main theme of a novel by Ecuavisa. But yes, it can be said that this is an official, powerful and concrete return to restart my career on stage.

And how would you describe your new musical proposal?

I try to stay contemporary, even though I make songs for other artists, I have to listen to new music. I think the artist needs to update himself, if he doesn’t update, he tends to disappear and the music has evolved mainly in the urban area, which I think is a good style, I like it, it doesn’t bother me at all . There are artists who see it badly. There’s a simplicity to the style that sticks out a bit today, it’s the trend. This is the music and you have to adapt to it.

So you felt inclined to produce new rhythms within these?

Naturally. In fact Hit bottom It is a purely urban number and Poet is a ballad type, but with a feeling urban nineties, as well as my latest album, which is called my whole lifewhere all themes are urban.

You also recently had a media tour in Peru, in various cities. How do you feel the public’s reception to this new artistic facet?

In Peru I was on some radios and other media, in Piura, Paita, on the border, in cities where my songs have been heard a lot. I was also in Ambato to shoot the video of Poet. He had often told me to do something there, because of the landscapes it is a very beautiful city. It happened that I had two presentations in Ambato and I took the opportunity to record the video, my dream came true. I am very happy with the result, I worked with very professional people.

How do you rate that experience on the REM Awards stage?

I am the second main member of the Monitoring Council (from Sayce). They invited me to this gala and I was very happy, I gladly accepted the invitation. I saw new artists, a lot of new talents doing really well and I felt really, really satisfied.

If you could describe how the Omar Galindo of 20 years ago differs from today’s, what would you answer?

Well, one has more maturity now, logically. I started this career very young, about 16 or 17 years old, and by 18 I was already famous. I don’t regret anything I’ve done, but I confess that if I had grown up a little earlier, I would have done a lot more things than I did.

What important lessons have these first two decades of your career left you with?

My whole life itself has been an apprenticeship. My passage in this existence was to learn, to improve, especially to be better today than yesterday and tomorrow better than today.

And what would you change?

Nothing, because everything I’ve lived is a result of everything I am now. My process has been aggressive, strong, hectic, it’s even accelerated, maybe because my career started so early, but that’s how it has been, thank God I’ve been through everything I’ve been through.

What other projects do you have planned for 2023?

I want to promote this new album, my whole life, we will be releasing songs throughout the year (there are eight songs in total). And of course I have always set my sights on internationalisation. I knock on doors abroad, in Mexico, Colombia, Peru. It’s never too late, and I’m working on it. My songs sound in many countries through the songs I’ve done for other artists, but this time I want to be the one to go to those countries.
