The Basque Government will declare bertsolarismo intangible cultural heritage in the coming months, as announced by the Minister of Culture, Bingen Zupiria.
Zupiria, who made this announcement in full control of the Basque Parliament, explained that this will be the first declaration of intangible cultural heritage to be designated in the Basque Country within the framework of the Basque Cultural Heritage Law approved in 2019.
In addition, the Minister of Culture and Language Policy has explained that his department is working on other initiatives that the law establishes in terms of intangible cultural heritage.
In 2018, the Government of Navarra declared bertsolarismo an asset of cultural interest, and in November 2022 it was the Government of France that declared it an asset of cultural interest, in its category of intangible heritage.
