Eight out of ten artists at concerts in the CAV in 2022 were men

Men are the overwhelming majority in the musical field of the Basque Autonomous Community, both in terms of recorded records and in terms of concerts. This is clearly shown by a report published by the Basque Observatory of Culture.
Based on the Kulturklik database and agenda, the Observatory has scrutinized the musical events (486 performances in 385 events) held in the BAC throughout 2022 and the records released by groups from Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa during that same year. (a sample of 122 records) to measure the participation of men and women in all of them.
The data is very significant. Starting with live music, 81.4% of the people who participated in concerts on stage in 2022 (festivals have been left out of the sample due to their own characteristics) in the BAC are men and 18, 6% women.
Of every ten groups that performed, six were made up entirely of men, and only one made up entirely of women; In addition, in the mixed groups, women make up 31% of the members.
Recorded music
The predominance of men is even greater in recorded music. 89.1% of the performers on the records published in the CAV in 2022 are men, and only 10.9% are women.
Considering the formation of the groups, three out of four groups that published their work were made up only of men, only 6% of them were made up only of women and 17.8% were mixed. Among these, women accounted for 30.4% of the members.
Language
The object of study is the gender gap, but it also provides interesting data on language. Basque was the language that was heard the most at concerts in the CAV in 2022, followed by Spanish. It is noteworthy that the groups made up only of women used Basque more on stage, in proportion.
With regard to records, three out of four works published by groups made up only of women were in Basque, while in groups made up only of men the linguistic diversity is greater: 43% in Basque, 18% in Spanish …
