The number of non-championship bertsos recitals has returned to pre-pandemic figures, according to a study by Bertsozale Elkartea.
According to data collected by Xenpelar Dokumentazio Zentroa, last year 1069 bertsos recitals were held at festivals, lunches or dinners or special formats (bertsos set to music, thematic…), apart from the different championships held during the year. For comparison, in 2019 there were 1,130 and in 2015, 1,201.
With respect to the bertsolaris who sang in these shows, a step forward can be seen in terms of gender parity; while in 2019 almost two thirds of the bertsolaris were men, in 2022 that figure dropped to 53.2%, although in this section the participants in the championships have also been counted.
Regarding the distribution by territories, of the 350 bertsolaris who performed in the 2022 recitals, 39.8% were from Gipuzkoa, 29.8% from Biscay, 10.6% from Navarre, 10% from Alava and 9.7 % of Iparralde.
