Among this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame honorees, Estefan is one of four who first rose to fame as part of a group (the others being Sade Adu de Sade; ELO’s Jeff Lynne and Teddy Riley Guy’s). She is also one of three born outside the United States (Adu was born in Nigeria, Lynne in England).

“We are all nominated for many years. It’s hard to choose because there are so many people and there’s only so many to choose from,” Gloria said of the introduction. “So I’m very grateful to be in this incredible company. I am a huge fan of anyone who is going to receive an award. And it’s something special to me because for me writing songs is a way of communicating with people you might never meet, and we become part of their story, give them ideas and often express their feelings for them, and develop a bond that is beautiful”.
As part of the 2023 launch, Gloria Estefan will be inaugurated on June 15 at a gala at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
