– Equal rights for all! Serious accusations were made against the band’s lead singer. We are talking about possible harassment, illegal drugs and assaults on female fans attending concerts. Nothing has been proven, so the presumption of innocence applies. It is absolutely obvious that potential victims should be treated with equal respect – writes the German “Bild” in a Sunday commentary on the scandal that broke out at the very beginning of the band’s European tour. The team also appealed earlier in its statement not to lynch those who make the allegations.
German media believe that Lindemnn’s lawyers want to “gag” journalists
Lindemann’s lawyers issued a separate statement saying that all allegations against their client – especially those of drugging young women and sexually abusing them – are “without exception false.” As a result, they announced “immediate legal action” against those who make such baseless allegations. Attorneys Christian Schertz and Simon Bergmann also stressed that, in their opinion, the German media in particular violated the requirement to cover the case “in a balanced and objective manner”, stoke the atmosphere of scandal and sensationalism, which “was judged prematurely”. They want to fight that too.
Frank Ueberall, head of the national branch of the German Association of Journalists (DJV), believes that by threatening lawsuits, lawyers want to intimidate journalists and “gag the media”. “The accusations against the lead singer of one of Germany’s most popular bands are so serious that they must be thoroughly investigated and described,” he told tellerreport.com.
“Journalists have the right to do their job. Without being intimidated or judged by lawyers specializing in the media market. Research is not prohibited,” writes Tanja May. He also believes that the accusation of the lack of “balanced and objective description of the case” is also untrue. He announces that it is impossible to “silence” in this way and at the same time encourages all people who would like to share with his experiences with afterparty after Rammstein concerts.
What about the Rammstein tour?
24-year-old Shelby Lynn, after the first Rammstein concert in Vilnius, which took place on May 22, announced that she was drugged with a rape drug for preparty. She also posted photos of bruises on her body online and described that she had been selected to engage in sexual activities with the singer of the band. Although she points out that Lindemann did not molest her, she decided to publicize the matter and encourages other participants of behind-the-scenes parties to share their stories of how they were similarly drugged or forced into unwanted sexual contacts.
Lynn took a blood drug test after the concert, but it showed nothing. The Irish woman claims that she took them too late to prove anything, because the rape drug quickly disappears from the body. JakBild”, the Lithuanian police did not open an investigation after it was reported. Tomas Braženias, spokesman for Vilnius services, said that there was no evidence in the case, and the required papers from the Irish police had not been provided.
Since then, the German media has been publishing more accounts and statements of women who describe the recruitment process to zero at Rammstein concerts and the experience of after parties. Due to the outbreak of the scandal, the team started cooperation with a PR agency specializing in crisis management. Alena Makeeva, who was responsible for searching for participants of backstage parties, was also to be removed from the group.
A petition to cancel Rammstein’s concerts has been launched online – 25,000 people signed it, which is barely a fraction of the number of fans who show up at one stadium performance of the group. From Friday, June 9, the band played four of the seven planned concerts in Munich. As reported by “”, these performances looked different than usual: the band gave up playing songs whose texts in the light of the scandal may sound particularly provocative, there was no order zero with attractive women in front of the stage, no afterparty was organized, which was especially sought by the city authorities, and A special tent for women was set up at the event site. Many fans also resold their tickets.
Munich councilor Anne Hübner of the Social Democratic Party of Germany also notes that “so far there is no official investigation into Rammstein” and Green activist Katrin Habenschaden added that “there are no legal grounds for canceling the concerts.” Rammstein is to play during this year’s tour, among others. in Slovenia, Switzerland, France, Austria and Poland.
You need help?
Sexual violence is any unwanted sexual contact. UNICEF data shows that around 15 million teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 have experienced this type of violence worldwide, but only 1 percent of teenagers turn to a professional for help. Research shows that 80% of rape victims develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
If you are a victim of sexual violence, you can get help by calling, for example, the “Blue Line” Telephone Clinic – 22 668 70 00 (7 days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) or the 24-hour hotline of the Women’s Rights Center – 600 070 717.
