Thanks to Abbie, Agnetha realized her dream. Fame, however, had its price
Fältskog met Björn Ulvaeus in 1968. They married on July 6, 1971. A year later, ABBA was born – a band created by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. In 1973, Agnetha and Björn’s daughter Linda was born, four years later Peter Christian was born. When ABBA won the 1974 Song Contest with the song “Waterloo”, the lives of four inseparable friends changed forever, and Agnetha realized her great childhood dream and conquered the music scene. Fame, however, had its price, and the singer began to struggle with more and more serious fears.
She wasn’t getting on a plane with her husband. She was afraid that she would orphan a daughter and a son
When they went on tour, Agnetha insisted on traveling on a different plane than Björn. She was afraid of flying, and most of all, she was afraid that the crash would both kill her and leave her children orphaned. The fears deepened when during one of the trips the plane with the team fell into turbulence and had to make an emergency landing. From then on, whenever possible, she moved almost exclusively by car. Therapy helped her deal with her fear of flying. She was also afraid of open spaces and crowds.
Two breakups sealed the end of the band. “We were all really fed up with ABBA”
After seven years of marriage, Fältskog and Ulvaeus decided to separate. After their divorce in 1979, they promised each other that the separation would not affect their stage duties. In the song “The Winner Takes It All”, Ulvaeus talked about a failed marriage, and the hit was sung by Agnetha. However, the problems began to grow. For some time, she was tired of duties, constant travels and crowds. In November 1980, the band’s trip to Germany was canceled after threats and the possible kidnapping of Agnetha’s daughter Linda emerged. The singer had had enough. In 1982, when the relationship between Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad also fell apart, it finally ended its activity. Agnetha developed a solo career for several years, finally withdrew from show business for years and sewed up on a farm in Sweden. – For a while, we all got really fed up with ABBA. Both Frida [Lyngstad]and me, for several years after the band disbanded, we didn’t listen to our songs at all. But then, when a few years had passed, it was nice to come back to them – she revealed in an interview
