Every year there is a new challenge for independent music in Ecuador. Talent was no longer a question for a long time. Without a doubt, artists have more than demonstrated that proposals and projects abound in our country; however, uncertainty stems from factors such as the audience or the lack of dissemination.

Paola Navarrete and her next album in Mexico

The artist from Guayaquil has released a number of singles from the Aztec country viz You are (like the sea) the most recent. In this new studio work, Paola has overseen the production of the iconic Adam Jodorowski.

José Luis Freire experiences sounds

The musician and producer from Guayaquil published in May Forty: an introspective journeyan album in which he collaborated with various artists, such as Mac Tempo, CABA, Ceci Juno and Ama$onica. Although the basis of everything the trip hop and the relaxthe search for a solid identity is central.

Equatorial sounds circle around the world

Lyzbeth Badaraco, Grecia Albán, Alex Alvear, Miguel Sevilla and Daniel Idrovo are part of an artist residency in Paris (France), where they programmed shows and talks in June, with the Ecuadorian flag high.

In addition, we can mention bands like 3Vol and Jazz The Roots, who bravely sought internationalization: they recorded their new albums in Argentina and managed to impress audiences in the neighboring country with a few concerts.

The local independent scene has been surprised by projects like Arupo, Cedro, Carmelida or Bolivian Oceans, groups that once again give substance to that description of the “musical capital of Ecuador” that this city is rich in.

Independent music has not stopped expanding in 2023. Hopefully, audiences and dissemination follow the same path. (OR)
