The maternal pension is the colloquial name of the parental supplementary benefit, also known as Mama 4+. It aims to financially support parents who have given up paid work to raise children and therefore do not have an income that will provide them with the necessary means of subsistence. How much is it and what criteria must be met to receive it?

Maternal retirement not only for women. Who is entitled to?
The Mama 4 plus benefit is available to parents who have brought up at least four children and for this reason have not acquired the right to an old-age pension or it is lower than the minimum. Despite the misleading name, men can also apply for them. What conditions must be met to receive them? The benefit will be granted:
- mothers who are over 60 and brought up at least four children,
- fathers who are over 65 and raised at least four children whose mother has died, abandoned or simply did not take part in raising children for a long time.
The birth and upbringing of a child, or the upbringing of a child, concerns one’s own children, the spouse’s children, adopted children and those adopted for upbringing within a foster family. The exception is professional foster families.
However, these are not all the conditions that must be met in order to receive . In addition, the parent must live in Poland, and after the age of 16 have had their center of vital interests here for at least 10 years. It is also important to have Polish citizenship or citizenship of one of the EU or EFTA Member States together with the right of permanent residence in Poland or legalized stay in the country.
How much is the Mama 4 plus benefit? It’s up to PLN 1,500 a month
The maximum amount of the Mama 4+ benefit is the same as the minimum . From March 1, it is PLN 1,588.44 gross. Parents who do not receive a pension at all can count on such support. On the other hand, those who receive an old-age pension, however, lower than the minimum, under the program may count on equalizing it to this amount. For example, a mother who meets the criteria and receives a pension of PLN 500 will receive an additional PLN 1,088.44 gross on this account.
Mama 4+ not only for people insured in ZUS. What do you have to do to get it?
The maternal old-age pension can be used by persons who are covered by the general insurance system or who receive an agricultural retirement and disability pension. Supplementary parental benefit is granted upon application. After meeting the criteria, it should be submitted together with the required ones to ZUS.
