Eugeniusz Bodo bought a car. Two weeks later, the accident happened. Later he became a teetotaler

At the end of the 1930s, he had an unshakable position in the art industry. He had talent, fame and money. It was then that he decided to buy his first luxury car, a Chevrolet. Two weeks later, a tragedy occurred that changed his life forever.

They were going to Poznań when they skidded. Bodo’s friend died in the accident

Soon after buying a new car, Bodo decided to check how the machine performs on long journeys. On May 27, 1929, accompanied by members of “Morskie Oko”, he went on a journey from the capital to Poznań. Around 2:00 a.m., the car driven by the driver drove onto the road being repaired, and a moment later it skidded. Bodo was unable to control the vehicle, which first ran off the road and then rolled down a nearby embankment a few meters, stopping on the roof.

Fishermen who saw the whole incident immediately arrived at the scene. First aid was provided to the passengers, but the life of one of them could not be saved. Witold Ronald, privately a close friend of Bodo, had serious injuries, including a broken spine. The 31-year-old died on the spot. The other people did not have any serious ailments and injuries, they ended up with minor scratches or, as in the case of one of them, a broken arm. Information about the accident immediately went to the press. — It should be noted that the car was traveling at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour, and there was no warning sign on the bend – “Illustrated Republic”.

He was charged with causing the accident in court. A tragic night changed his life

Bodo, as the driver of the vehicle, was charged with causing the accident. The case went to court, but the trial began almost 3 years later. he made extensive explanations, he did not shirk his responsibility. He claimed that he could not explain what had happened and maintained that he was sober at the time of the incident. However, the police officer who carried out the activities immediately after the tragedy did not agree with his account. He argued that at the time of the accident, Bodo was under the influence of alcohol, and his words were confirmed by empty bottles of high-proof drinks, which were secured in the crashed car.

He was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment suspended for 3 years. The press was merciless. It was written that a young, talented man died because of the star’s irresponsibility, and that fame went to his head. For a friend, the accident and death were a huge blow and a personal tragedy. After this situation, he could not recover for a long time and decided to become a teetotaler.
