(PHOTOS) The giant balloons of the Macy’s parade returned to the streets of New York on Thanksgiving Day

Central Park West welcomed thousands of visitors who enjoyed the fun characters, music and a great festive atmosphere.

After a year of restrictions due to the pandemic, the traditional Macy’s parade which is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of November, on Thanksgiving Day in New York (United States), returned to the streets of that city and thousands of citizens and tourists gathered to enjoy of its spectacular giant balloons and characters.

The event, carried out since 1924, attracts many visitors to the city every year, many others see it live on television. The parade that stretches for 4 kilometers includes floats, bands and cheerleaders, not forgetting the famous giant character balloons cartoons like Spiderman, Mickey Mouse or Hello Kitty. This year, he was present Yellow (or better known as the Baby Yoda from the series The Mandalorian) and also the protagonist of the animated film Baby Boss.

People also took advantage of watch the parade from their windows and on the sides of the sidewalks of Central Park West where the funny figures walked.

For decades, this gathering has brought together well-known artists who summarize a cultural moment. It happened in the seventies, when disco music was present with Diana Ross, called the queen of Motown. And it was also the time to shine from Kermit the Frog. In 1977, one of the biggest stars of the parade was Jean McFaddin who then gave the show a big dose of Broadway.

From the turn of the millennium, even the balloons changed and improved their quality and silhouette thanks to technology. Sponge Bob was able to put on his square pants and Buzz Lightyear, wear a translucent helmet. Since then, these attractions have even been transformed into hybrid models: the tricaloons and the balloons hot air they occupied a central place.

The 2021 parade was marked by the joy of the reunion. “This year, the parade has returned in full force”said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio before the event. “It will be a great sign of our rebirth.”
