“We know that there is a long way to equality in Poland, but this time we would like to encourage ourselves and our recipients – we suggest focusing on the positives. Let’s talk about what has changed for the better for LGBT+ people in Poland in the last 5, 10, 15 years – in consciousness, acceptance, representation, in narratives and language, in law. Are there any signs of change that we can rejoice in? Has anything moved?” – proposes Marta Nowak, who will oversee the course of the event, who is leading the debate.
What is changing for the better for LGBT+ people in Poland? Gazeta.pl invites you to a live debate
The motto of the 20th edition of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival is “Don’t be indifferent_a”. It refers to the famous words of Marian Turski, which guided the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and which also perfectly reflect the values that have accompanied the festival since its inception – mindfulness and sensitivity (also linguistic) to the people around us.
In the context of the month of pride that begins on June 1, the section is particularly important. – It’s a journey from a story about a group of queer artists from Colombia, through a beautiful lesbian love story from the Netherlands, a look at the life of trans people in the 1960s in the USA, to a story about contemporary Poland seen from the perspective of non-heteronormative people. How is life for LGBTQ+ people in different parts of the world? – the organizer describes what happens in the films “Casa Susanna”, “Beloved”, “Anhell69”, “Queendom”, “I’d like to tell you”, “Parada – Don’t rain on our Parade” and “Nago. Loud. Proudly”.
