Krzysztof Kieślowski was born on June 27, 1941 in Warsaw. He graduated from a film school in Łódź and started his directing career with documentaries. However, he soon began to realize himself in feature films. He directed Chance, The Double Life of Veronica, the trilogy Three Colours, and The Decalogue. For the film “Three Colours. Red” he was nominated for an Oscar for directing and original screenplay. Kieślowski is still one of the most respected and famous Polish directors in the world.

In the summer of 1995 Kieślowski suffered his first heart attack. A year later, he decided to undergo bypass surgery. He died during it, on March 13, 1996. Six days later Krzysztof Kieślowski’s funeral took place. The director rests at the cemetery in Warsaw.

In 2013, the distinctive hands were stolen. The police received a report from the board on May 30, Corpus Christi. The wife of Krzysztof Kieślowski also informed about the theft. – Hands down – then Zbigniew Preisner. “It’s simply a shame,” he added, appealing for the return of the stolen hands. These were found three days later in one of the metal purchases located in Warsaw’s Targówek. Two people were arrested in connection with the theft. As reported, the man was charged with robbing a resting place, and his wife was released. The sculpture was not damaged and some time later returned to Stare Powązki.
