“Sami Swoi” is one of the most popular comedies in the history of Polish cinema. Sylwester Chęciński’s film story about the feuding families of Pawlak and Kargul was released in 1967, and years later, thanks to new technology, a black and white picture was painted, making the production loud again. This time, Artur Żmijewski, who sits on the director’s chair of the latest NEXT FILM – “Sami swoi.

“Alone. Beginning”. Shooting for the prequel to the cult trilogy has begun

“I want to make a film that will be understandable to the modern viewer, that will explain the origins of the dispute between the Pawlaks and the Karguls, and describe the world they lived in before arriving in the Recovered Territories. I want it to be a completely new, universal story about us – as we are on every day, with all the advantages and disadvantages. Regardless of where we live, says Żmijewski about the idea to refresh the film. The script for the film was written by Andrzej Mularczyk, who set himself a difficult goal. “A true comedy has to entertain and move, and that’s the kind of comedy I want to make,” he announced.

Will the creators succeed? We will find out soon, because the shooting for the prequel of the cult trilogy has begun. The first photos straight from the filming site can be found in our gallery. The well-known roles of Kazimierz Pawlak and Władysław Kargul will be played this time by Adam Bobik and Karol Dziuba, who will play younger versions of the neighbors than those we know from previous films. Other roles will include: Paulina Gałązka, Weronika Humaj, Zbigniew Zamachowski, Katarzyna Krzanowska, Mirosław Baka, Wojtek Malajkat, Anna Dymna, Janusz Chabior and Adam Ferency.

As probably not everyone knows, the history of the Pawlak and Kargul families is inspired by real events. Among those leaving their homes in Kresy, which is now part of Ukraine, was Jan Mularczyk, the uncle of the excellent screenwriter and novelist Andrzej Mularczyk, the author of the script for the cult trilogy and prequel. It was him who, many years later, became the prototype for the character of Kazimierz Pawlak, well known from the trilogy “Sami swoi”, “Nie mamocnych” and “Love or throw”. Jan Mularczyk, settled in Tymowa, near Lubin, in Lower Silesia. As screenwriter Andrzej Mularczyk recalls: “He had a rich life story behind him, and at the same time he was a great narrator. I listened to the stories of his life for several weeks and wrote them down in notebooks that I have kept to this day. In these stories there was both drama and melancholy, and humour.
