Ignacio Cano, better known as Nacho Cano and one of the members of the cult group of the 80s, Mecano, returns to the fore in a recent interview with Bertin Osborne for his program “Mi casa es la tuya”, broadcast on the Spanish channel Telecinco.

Although he is still active as a businessman and musician, there was a point in his career when he plunged into addiction and today, at the age of 60, he is speaking openly about the shadow that once surrounded him.

A musician joined the excesses of the Madrid scene, who now admits that they didn’t have much information back then and that “festivals were held without end”.

“There was management and indigestion. Those were the years in which there was no measure. There was no information and practically all of my first group died,” he recalled to Bertín Osborne.

The excesses were so great that at the age of 23 he collapsed while staying in London. This would be the episode that caused him to open his eyes after falling into addiction to psychotropic substances, reports Mundo Deportivo.

“I tried everything. The luck I had was that my intense years were few, and at the age of 23 the unemployment of a crazy life”, he stated his story.

But Osborne wanted to know more about Meccan, so he insisted on asking why the successful trio had split up.

“Each of us went somewhere and worked on our own projects. One day my brother said that the group has finished until today,” he replied.

One of the most famous members of the group in Spain also spoke about his relationship with his brother José María, who he recalled that they spent their childhood together and had fun whenever they could. They had a good brother-sister relationship “until the fame of the group came along” and everything got complicated.

“They were very fun years, very beastly, and then they were some magical years and the music stayed there,” he said at the time, before host Pablo Motos insisted if they would indeed “never get Mecan back together”.

“There are things that are magical, that are in time, that start and end in a beautiful way and then start to get tangled up because humanity is like that, no.
