Sam Smith was scheduled to play on the first day of the festival on the Orange Stage at 11:00 pm. Information about the cancellation of the artist’s performance was made available by the event organizers just six days before the event. “We regret to inform you that after the cancellation of concerts in Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham, due to illness, Sam Smith also cancels the performance at the Orange Warsaw Festival,” we read in the statement.
Sam Smith will not play in Poland. Alter Art is looking for a replacement
The musician’s health problems became apparent on Thursday, May 25, when he was giving a concert in Manchester. He was forced to stop it after performing only four songs. Later, he described the whole situation on social media, informing about problems with his voice.
»At today’s soundcheck I felt good and I was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight with a special surprise at the end. (…) I left the stage and tried everything to restore my voice, but it didn’t help. I’m honestly devastated that I couldn’t finish today’s program for all of you. I love you all. Sorry, sorry, sorry,” wrote Sam Smith.
Alter Art found itself in a stalemate and announced the search for an artist to replace Sam Smith on the first day of this year’s Orange Warsaw Festival. “We are working hard to find another artist/band for June 2. We will soon inform you who will close the line-up of the main stage on Friday,” the organizers said. At the same time, they addressed people who decided to buy a one-day ticket for June 2 because of the Sam Smith concert. They stated that such persons will be able to return or exchange the ticket on the second day of the festival.
The artist became famous in 2012, when he made a guest appearance in the song “Latch” by the British electronic music duo Disclosure. A year later, he sang in the song “La La La” by Naughty Boy, which became a big hit. He released his first studio album “In The Lonely Hour” in 2014, which gained triple platinum status in Poland. The following year, he wrote the song “Writing’s on the Wall” for the James Bond film “Spectre”, for which he won an Oscar and a Golden Globe. In total, he has released four studio albums, the last of which “Gloria” was released this year. It was promoted by song “Unholy”, which is one of the biggest hits of last year.
